LISTENING PART 1 : HOW TO

PART 1 is a multiple choice activity. You will hear eight unrelated extracts from monologues or exchanges between interacting speakers. For each extract choose the correct answer from the choices given.

1. Read the questions carefully underlining the main ideas in the question as you read.
2. The words you hear will be different from the words in the question; listen for the meaning rather than the actual words.
3. Listen to the whole piece first before you choose: the answer may depend on the general idea rather than a few words.
4. If you aren’t sure about the answer after listening the first time, try to discard answers you don’t think are possible before you listen the second time.
